If they had not attacked Russia, Russia would have attacked them by 1944 at the latest. What they should have done was to get rid of Herman Goering as armaments minister and replace him with Albert Speer then get all the new weapons designs into service ASAP. The USSR would then have to fight a 3 rd Reich with jet aircraft, a lot of updated tanks and new infantry weapons.
However everything depends on keeping the USA out of the war. Certainly not declaring war unilaterally as Hitler did.
I have often thought that a “sane” Hitler would have sent 6 U boats across to the Panama Canal with a message that he could no longer have a treaty with “asiatic” Japanese. Since they had made an attack without a declaration of war the U boats were to help the US fight the Japanese in the Pacific. Now if that became public it would certainly have boosted the “peace” party in the USA.
There would be no aid to the USSR and Britain would be isolated and cut off from most overseas aid. They just might win then?
