  1. Yes. Absolutely, no matter the size of the country.

Look at the proof. China locked down Hubei (40 million people, bigger than most European countries). They did massive testing to find and isolate every positive case. They dropped the rate of new infections from hundreds per day to single digits.

South Korea followed that plan, running over 10,000 tests per day, isolating whole families that tested positive. Their new infections are headed toward zero too. The same in Hong Kong, Singapore, and Taiwan.

Compare that to Italy. They went from three known cases to over 8,000 in three weeks, and only then locked down the country. Now Spain is a week behind that path, with France, Germany, and the UK soon to follow.

Here in the States, they should have shut down SeaTac airport and closed Greater Seattle back in January when we had one case and a chance to find the other infected on his flight. Instead they didn’t start testing until an outbreak on a nursing home, and even then took over a week to test the healthcare workers. This is my home town. Simple math says we have at least 5,000 cases in the community, maybe more. 3 million people live in the region. Thousands will die here because the government acted too slowly.

Hundreds of thousands will die in the next few months in every big country that isn’t locked down today.
