Iran learned the lessons that Trump has obviously failed to learn from Vietnam and Afghanistan:

You cannot win a war with naval or air power. You can break a lot of things, but only boots on the ground can win a war and the US does not have enough boots to force a win in countries like Vietnam, Afghanistan, and Iran.
The same wars also taught that George Washington was right —- the easy way to fight a superior military power is to refuse to lose. It’s called asymmetric warfare and the Iranians are fully prepared to go asymmetric from the get-go.
The US simply does not have another 50,000 American lives and $6 trillion to throw at a war it cannot win.
