Late King Faisal of Saudi Arabia is highly respected in Pakistan. (Perhaps for his major role in funding the atom bomb of Pakistan). If you ask any Pakistani to tell the name of any king of Saudi Arabia, he will immediately say “King Faisal” because Pakistanis remember him by heart. On the death of King Faisal, the flag of Pakistan was lowered to half-mast for three days as a mark of mourning and respect. A major Pakistani city of Lyallpur was renamed Faisalabad in honour of King Faisal in 1977.
King Faisal Mosque in Islamabad is also named after him. Faisal Mosque has the third largest capacity of accommodating worshipers in its adjoining grounds after Masjid al-Haram (Grand Mosque) of Mecca and Al-Masjid al-Nabawi (Prophet’s Mosque) in Medina.
There is a Faisal street or Faisal market or Faisal Town in almost all major cities of Pakistan. Shahrah Faisal in Karachi is also named after King Faisal Bin Abdul Aziz.
