John McCain truly loved his country. His sacrifices led him to be prisoner of war for 5 and a half years. He was extensively tortured and beaten to the extent that he had life long injuries from his arm and back.

As a Prisoner of war, he found out that he was being used as a trophy. Senator‚Äč McCain s captor s found out that his father and grandfather were both 4 star Admirals. So they were going to let him go early. But he felt that the rest of the prisoners were not getting the same treatment as he was getting. So he told his torturers that he wanted to be released last among all the Prisoners. He was held at Hanoi Hilton from 1967 to 1973.

He spent the remainder of his life serving his country in the House and Senate until he died on Saturday August 25th.

He graduated from the naval academy at Annapolis in 1957. He served hid country and it’s veterans for 61 years.

Senator McCain made peace with his former captors when he went back in the 80s to meet his former captors. The Colonel who ran the Prisoner of War camp mourned his death. Senator McCain met his former captors and their families.

He wrote A LETTER TO AMERICA that was read his former aid in Arizona earlier this week. READ THAT LETTER.
