If you are on guard duty and a major says, “no one is allowed through this door without my permission” and then a major general demands that you let them in, what do you do or say?

During the Anglo Boer war, the commander in chief of the Boer army wanted to enter a military base. He was accompanied by his full detail in his military vehicle.

The MP at the gate refused him entry because his CO, a lieutenant, said nobody will come through that gate, even after admitting that he recognized the general (can’t remember his name now. but Google will probably know), but orders were orders.

It took his buddy to go back to camp and get the lieutenant’s permission to allow the CIC to enter the camp.

The MP was crapped all over by the OC, which prompted the CIC to say that if every soldier followed orders like the MP, the Boers would have won the war long time ago
