  1. No, but he is dying of an incurable brain Cancer. He receives treatment in chemotherapy and radiation to extend his life. He has not been in Congress this year so far.

Now, the Arizona Republic published an article last year that interviewed a doctor who was an expert on this type of cancer. He said with all treatments being given, the life expectancy for this type of cancer is a maximum of 1.5 years. This was published about half a year ago.

His last hospitalization was last week. He has been talking about his impending death of late. Go to Google News today and write “John McCain” and you’ll see a number of articles on these subjects.

Edit: he died on August 25, 2018

  2. Senator John McCain is mostly definitely not dead as of 11 May 2018. In fact he’s very much alive. How well he’s functioning and what precisely are his own thoughts and words and what are his wife, daughter’s and staff members are another matter. Friends have seen him as recently as a few weeks ago. An oafish White House official recently tried to crack a joke that McCain’s views on a particular matter didn’t matter because he was almost dead anyway. This caused a backlash as McCain supporters and in particular his wife and daughter didn’t take kindly to it. Most people with a person who is actively dying don’t take kindly to such things. He has not announced that he is actively dying but he has gone home and I suspect that they’re probably giving him some treatment but more and more will be palliative as the summer goes on. But at this moment he’s very much alive and any notion to the contrary is rather mean spirited. I suspect regardless of one’s political affiliation this is apparent to all. Even the most liberal must give the Senator his due for tenacity if nothing else. For the past year he has been working for the history books. And most in similar situations have been at their best in their final hours.
