As a past customer of PIA, I can tell you it is the one of the worst airlines in the world. Maybe the worst long haul airline. The only benefit of travelling PIA (which means you pay more, have the worst food and probably the worst customer service) is that it provides a direct flight to major cities in Pakistan. So one may be tempted to pay more money to a terrible airline in the hope that they will get you or your loved ones to their destination sooner. Don’t do it. Fly a more reputable airline to Dubai, Bahrain, some other place in the UAE and then take a short haul flight from there.

This december, my family (wife and 2 young kids) was stranded because the plane (a Boeing 777) developed a “maintenance” fault at the last minute and no passenger was allowed to board, but the ground crew took everyone’s boarding passes. It was delayed for hours (PK788 from London) and the passengers were not allowed to leave and no updates were provided. I regret having bought into the direct flight to Pakistan scam and putting them through that. Just don’t do it. It’s not worth the pain, customer abuse, terrible food and rude people. There is no reliable direct flight to Pakistan via PIA.

Also, that airline needs to be privatised or sold off. I am originally from Pakistan and have travelled on PIA perhaps 20–25 times including long haul flights to the US. I am one of many Pakistani’s that now go out of their way to find a more reliable (even if its longer) route to Pakistan and avoid PIA as much as possible. So if Pakistani’s now avoid Pakistan Airlines, what does that tell you?
