  1. Broadly speaking, geographically South Asia or Indo-Pak sub-continent or Indian sub-continent comprises of the land mass lying south of Himalayas between Indus river in its West and Brahmputra river in the East and includes the southern peninsula.

When we say India or Indian in the present context, it implies South Asia or South Asian respectively. The present day India is just a part of it, like Pakistan or Bangladesh. Still, some times the Pakistani nationalists do not like to call South Asia as Indian subcontinent which sounds to them like giving a kind of supremacy to present day India because of sheer identical name.
