Did you fail your biology class? Please cast your racism, hatred, blame, conspiracy theory or whatever aside and help China and the world to fight against this invisible enemy.

Please watch this WHO press conference on Jan30, 2020 and listen CAREFULLY at 8:50 minute.

Just in case you miss it, let me type it out for you what WHO said:

“To defeat this outbreak is for all countries to work together in a spirit of solidarity and cooperation. We’re all in this together, and we can only stop it together. This is the time for fact, not fear. This is the time for science, not rumours. This is the time for solidarity, not stigma. I thank you.”

Many countries had viruses and outbreak. The US has thousands of people die every year due to flu. Sierra Leone had Ebola outbreak 2 years ago. China sent its medical staff, risking their lives to help saving lives in Sierra Leone. India also had outbreak in the past. Does that mean India has biological warfare agents? In fact, India has more people die of train crash than number of people die in China in this outbreak.

Please stop stigmatizing Chinese and China that are doing all the work and fighting hard to stop the spread to other countries and saving their own lives and lives of infected people in other countries at the same time.

China is not only worried about its own people but infected people in other countries too. Don’t believe me? Please watch this press conference from WHO broadcast on Jan 29, 2020. Listen CAREFULLY what WHO said China contacted each country to help saving the infected person.

Please don’t waste your time on internet to spread rumours, troll, and stop stigmatizing people whose lives are seriously affected by this outbreak and those who are combating the nature, the invisible enemy, the dangerous microorganism but contribute to help fighting this outbreak together like these foreigners in China. These foreigners are so generous and so sincere that they have touched many Chinese and people around the world.

If they are trying to create a biowarfare agent based on a coronavirus, they’re not very smart. The new coronavirus (2019-nCoV) would make a purely lousy biological warfare agent, from all sorts of perspectives. Ideal characteristics of a biological agent to be used as a weapon against humans include (1) easily, quickly, and inexpensively manufactured in bulk, (2) highly infectious by multiple routes of exposure, (3) highly virulent (the data we have to date indicates this virus is not highly virulent), (4) availability of an effective and efficient delivery system, (5) stability (ability of the agent to retain its infectivity and virulence after a prolonged period of storage), and (5) ability to control the spread of the agent. Person-to-person transmission via aerosolized respiratory droplets is undesirable, as the agent may be transmitted by this mechanism to unintended populations, including neutral or even friendly forces. The only desirable property for a biowarfare agent that this coronavirus has is non-availability of vaccines.

Seriously, stop with all the idiot speculation, please. The odds are far higher that the virus jumped to humans from bats. Bats are very well-established as hosts for many viruses, coronaviruses included, and a market such as the seafood market in Wuhan is a very likely place for new strains to develop and to jump from animals to humans. The question to my mind, then, is how does a country with a thriving trade in wildlife for food and traditional medicines (and there are many such countries) go about discouraging that trade, to prevent epidemics and, heaven forefend, pandemics from happening in the future? Even China is only talking about stopping the trade until the current crisis is over.
