Leaving the eldest to babysit the youngest.

My mother used to leave my teenage sister with me and my brother. Not only did she robbed my sister of those precious years but we suffered quite a lot. She’d be annoyed because she couldn’t go out with her friends so she’d yell at us.A LOT. She didn’t cook for us and when she did she’d burn the food on purpose. It was horrible.

Pick a favorite kid.

My mother haves always loved my eldest sister more. She overlooks her flaws and always talks rainbows about her.

Scold them for trivial stuff.

When I decided to leave school because it was boring to me I promised to take the highschool exam and go straight to uni, which I did…and graduated…with honors. Still I got scolded by my mother. Every.Damn.Day. Until I moved out right at my last year of uni.

Let them get comfortable with people at their own pace.

I was quite a shy and anxious kid. My mother would bring us to work parties a lot and she’d scold me and talk shit about me for waving from beside her co-workers instead of giving them a “polite” kiss in the cheek. She’d say I was a weird cookie and probably should get me a therapist. I was just shy. I’m a really friendly person now.

Don’t judge their friends without knowing them.

I got forbidden to be friends with a girl because she “looked like a lesbian delinquent”… She ended up being one of the best friends I’ve ever had for 6 years, sadly I lost contact with her when we turned 18. I still to this day miss her and wonder what happened to her.
