Mother’s Day we are driving the 75 miles home when the battery light came on. “Dangit, battery must need replacing…”

The next day, I drove it to the Toyota dealership in town. The car died as I was pulling into a parking spot. “Hmm,ok… at least I am already at the dealership.” It was just over the 36,000 mile limit but it still had 2 weeks left on the 3 year warranty (thankfully as it turned out). “Ugh, I bet I have to pay for the repair.”

The service manager asked me if I was prepared for a shock…

“Uh oh, this does not sound good”, I thought to myself.

He says, “It is a dead alternator.”

I breathed a sigh of relief. “That doesn’t sound too bad. What is it gonna cost me, around $300 bucks?”

“The part will cost $715, and will take 3 days to get here from Japan. Labor is only a couple hours including diagnostic.”

I almost cried. “A thousand bucks FOR AN ALTERNATOR?! Pull the other other one! I can’t afford that!” I went on ranting for another 5 minutes or so before he stopped me.

“The technician must have made a mistake writing down the mileage… I have already corrected his *mistake*. Good thing you still have 800 miles left on that warranty.” “We will call you when your car is ready.”

“Erm. Ummmm…. Uhhh. So… So how much is this going to cost?”

“Nothing. Sorry for the inconvenience of it taking 3 days. Want a loaner car?”

I was so flabbergasted and grateful, I bought new wipers from them. Just because…. They even washed and detailed the car before giving it back
