What do Malaysians think about Singapore? Do they regret rejecting Singapore 50 years ago and/or are they jealous of Singapore doing better than Malaysia in many areas?

I am a Malaysian.

Allow me to give you a student’s perspective about Singapore.

Singapore is a very competitive country. Students there lead stressful lives. Coupled with their strict rules such as citizens are not allowed to distribute chewing gum, and heavy fines imposed when citizens commit even the smallest of crimes, I would say not many people would enjoy that lifestyle.

On the other hand, it is one of the most successful countries in Asia. In terms of academic excellence, Singapore tops the list of PISA scores in Maths and English language. On top of that, the National University of Singapore is ranked first among other universities in Asia , even beating world class universities from China and Japan
