For a country to attack another country, a stockpile of offensive weaponry is required. In the case of Iran attacking the US, Iran would require several aircraft carriers, very long-range ballistic missiles and MIRV. They would also require dozens of nuclear-powered submarines that could sneak up to the US shores undetected. A certain number of strategic stealth bombers, air refueling tankers and a well-defended Island in Iranian possession would also be necessary. A large number of marine forces with massive airdrop capacity would also be required. Considering the fact that Iran (or any other nation in the world other than the US) has any such strategic assets, an offensive war is an impossibility. Iran is absolutely incapable of launching ANY direct attack against the US other than posing short term risk to the carriers that are in the range of Iranian missiles. Iran can presently only cause considerable damage to the US and/or US allies in the region (which includes Israel, Iraq and Saudi Arabia) with ballistic missiles.
In recent history, Japan possessed a certain quantity of strategic assets to be in a position to bomb the US at Pearl Harbor only once, but they never possessed the volume, quality, and quantity of firepower to bomb the US mainland or disrupt the American industrial base. Short of a surprise nuclear first strike by Russia, no other country has been in a position to launch an attack on the US mainland for almost two centuries. That makes the US the safest country on earth!
