  1. Corona viruses are a family of viruses that can cause cold to severe diseases. They are transmitted from animals to human beings. They start with the symptoms of cold, cough, throat pain, sneezing and progress on to fever, pneumonia and severe respiratory disease and finally to kidney failure and death. In 2003 the SARS corona virus that caused death due to severe acute respiratory syndrome transmitted via civet cats and bats was first reported in China. Later in 2012 the MERS or Middle East respiratory syndrome was reported in Saudi Arabia which was caused by the spread of the virus via camels. The present corona virus is known as novel corona virus (nCoV) which has spread from bats and snakes mainly from China. We need to worry in India too because a lot of people from our country are working and studying in China and many of them who returned back are under suspicion and are observed in health care facilities. There is no drug for this virus but it can be prevented by quarantining the person and by precautions like washing your hands after you go outside, using a towel while sneezing etc. Consulting a doctor at the earliest sign like cold or cough is the best way to prevent the disease.
