  1. GPRS: General Packet Radio Service

GPRS Full Form denotes the General Packet Radio Service.

This could refer to the 2G, 3G or 2.5G (which is in between 2G and 3G) and was one among the most popular data access models in Asia and Europe.

Later it was adopted by some of the carrier network giants like Rogers and Tmobile in Canada and US. With the advancement of technology the faster versions of 3G and 4Gs were introduced. GPRS promises rates of data to more than 114 Kbps with uninterrupted connectivity to the mobile and computer users.

It also facilitates video conferences and usage of multimedia sites with handheld devices without interruption. Since it is based on GSM or Global System for Mobile communication, it enhances services like SMS and circuitswitched connections. It also boosts Bluetooth connections and supports IP or Internet Protocol and X.25, which is a packet protocol mainly used in Europe. In essence, GPRS is a major step of evolution in the direction of EDGE – Enhanced Data GSM Environment and UMTS – Universal Mobile Telephone Service.
