Trump owned the New Jersey Generals of the now defunct USFL. As part of an attempt to force the NFL to merge with that league the way they did with the AFL, he pressured the other owners into voting to move their season from spring to fall. This is widely viewed as one of the biggest factors in the demise of the USFL.

The other factor was an anti-trust suit he engineered against the NFL, again trying to force a merger. The USFL won the suit, was awarded $3, and faded away into history.

He tried to buy the Buffalo Bills a few years ago, but didn’t have the money to go up against Terry Pegula.

He is very good friends with Bob Kraft, owner of the New England Patriots.
