I happened to answer the front door at the same time one day and there was a salesman on our porch. My husband’s first wife had planted a bunch of rosebushes in front of the porch. We hadn’t bothered to remove them or even trim them and they hung over onto the small porch. So, this salesman was standing between the rosebushes and the door and kept putting the hard sell on my husband and I. He wouldn’t take no for an answer and he wouldn’t leave. Now, neither of us were impolite no matter how rude he was being. He kept asking if he could come in and talk. So, after several minutes my husband turned to look at me and he winked and grinned. I wondered what that was about until I watched him slowly open the door more and more so that this guy had to back up and was right on top of the rosebushes. There was no way he wasn’t get pricked by them. Tons of them. It was a very big rosebush. But, he still tried to sell us whatever it was. I don’t remember was he was selling but I was trying really hard not to laugh. Finally, my husband opened the door the full extent and it sent this dude backwards into the rosebushes and he got up and swore a lot but he left. Turns out a few days later we were visited by a police officer. Naturally, our first thought was this dude was going to sue us for my husband pushing him into the rosebushes which he did even though it was subtly not a hard shove. But, NOPE the police officer asked what happened, we explained and he said it was great because as it turned out this guy had been using that salesman spiel to get into people’s house so he could case the place and come back later and rob them. They had caught him the day after when someone got suspicious about the way he acted after they opened their front door to talk to him. After they talked to us they had enough evidence to send him to jail just based on all of the thorn scratches he had. We moved not to long after that but for some reason left those rosebushes. I drove by that house the other day and the rosebushes are still there but a lot better trimmed.
