If the attack was obviously from the Iranian Military, and did little to no damage, several days of American cruise missiles and stealth aircraft attacks. There is a good chance the attacks would be targeted mainly at the Iranian Navy (because often a military will respond by doing to an enemy what the enemy tried to do to them), Iranian missile defenses (because it would make future attacks easier if needed) and nuclear sites (because that is what is really worrying the US, and if Iran gives the US an excuse, they will take it.

If the attack was successful, doing moderate to heavy damage, then 60–90 days at least of continuous round the clock attacks with Cruise missiles, stealth aircraft and conventional aircraft against anything with military value. The US military would try very hard to completely destroy every Iranian military ship, aircraft, missile, radar, base, nuclear facility, communications system, and command facility. Civilian targets which have military value like power plants and bridges, port facilities, train tracks etc. would also be attacked. As well as a naval blockade of the country. Basically, full scale war, without the ground troops.
