Put it simply, they wouldn’t even be able to find it, its impossible according the lore of the novel.

The only ones who can see IT are the children IT’s hunting and only when IT wants them to. IT occassionally hunts adults, but even they don’t understand what they are looking at. No one ever believes the victims as demonstrated by the children realizing their parents can’t/won’t protect them, and Don was dismissed when he told the police about the clown killing Adrian.

The adults can’t see and they don’t remember IT’s previous cycles. Even if they did notice, IT has them so deeply in IT’s control that they dismiss their own town as being too small for anyone outside to care about a bunch of disappearances.

If the Marines somehow came through Derry and discovered all the murders and disappearances in the town, it’s really not their job to do anything about it anyway, but for the sake of argument let’s say they did- they would find a human scapegoat that IT sends to take the fall for IT’s crimes, same as IT would under any normal circumstances.

And say a group of them actually did get involved deeply enough to actually encounter IT, the creature would simply keep messing with them using illusions and mind games until IT killed them or they simply looked so crazy that they get dishonorably discharged.

Neither the miniseries nor the movies quite make this clear, but in the novel it is very explicitly shown that the Losers Club was a very special case. They had a power that is often compared to the Shining, their love and faith and ability to reconnect with their childhood strength over powered IT, and they were also aided by two other entities of the same or greater power than Pennywise (the Turtle and the Other). Those factors are why they won- ultimately, they were essentially chosen to.

Brute strength, discipline and gun power is not going to cut it.
