The single incident is the imposition of Martial Law by Ayub Khan (1958-69).

Ayub Khan (The First Dictator)

This martial law was the founding stone to end the democracy of Pakistan. It was followed by the dark military rule of Yahya Khan (1969-71) and then the first civil martial law by Buttho (1971-77).

And it didn’t ended their. The martial law of Bhutto was followed by the military dictator Zia Ul Haq (1977-87). These back to back martial laws affected the whole political culture of Pakistan.

When the democracy was restored in Pakistan (1988), it was severely affected by the military culture. All the politicians were trained by dictators. The era followed was a strange game between Bhutto’s daughter Benazir Bhutto and Zia student Nawaz Sharif.

Banzeer Bhutto

Nawaz Sharif

They both ruled for two incomplete terms [Benazir (1988-90, 1993-96), Nawaz Sharif (1990-93, 1997-99)]. And then Musharraf imposed another martial law (1999-2008).

Hey but where it all started? Yes, the martial law by Ayub Khan
