Some gas cars already do, with enough maintenance.

The question is, “when will they with as little maintenance as will be required by an electric car.”

Probably never. All things being equal they have more wear parts and fluids that deteriorate from combustion by-products that need changing than an electric car.

Now, whether specific electric cars are well built and can last that long without maintenance is a different question, and some will certainly fail.

But, in general, the EV will require less work.

This is shown true in railroads, where electric engines take less maintenance than ones that burn fuel. There too, the initial cost of setting up an electric infrastructure is higher, and has to be weighed against the operating cost advantages.
