As modern nation state Pakistan has longer history than India simply because it came into being on 14th August 1947 while India gained its independence a day after in 15th of August 1947. So thats one day of longer history. This is one way of looking at it.

There are so many disagreements among scholars regarding modern nation states like which one came first nation or nation states. Definition of a Nation is that it shares as whole language, culture and common ancestry or descent. Nation state has several definitions like treaties that have been signed by various communities to agree on certain points or like French Revolution of 18th century where only half of the total population spoke French language. But it was termed as revolt of a nation under suppression. Modern nation states have territorial integrity, sovereignty, affinity, agreed constitution or set of principles which all of its factions agree upon, There are various types of states like confederations, federations likes of USA, Kingdoms who somehow still survived, migrant nation states likes of New Zealand, Australia, US and South Africa, small nation states like in EU which are more or less expanded tribes but even they are absorbing immigrants who first become part of nation state and ultimately nation.

Now if you see from the civilisation’s point of view then both India & Pakistan have people/ethnicities that have been living in these parts for thousands of years under different banners and names. Pakistan has the oldest ruins of Indus Valley Civilisation and Gandhara where as in India you have the few cities who are in top ten of the world’s oldest living cities like Varanasi and Ayodhya etc. Pakistan has Peshawar which was the capital of Gandhara Civilisation and has been continuously inhabited for over 3000 years. India has Gangetic Civilisation and Bengal delta another ancient civilisation.

Whole Subcontinent has seen many powerful dynasties and rulers who managed to consolidate different kingdoms through sheer force or consensus. Biggest powers that held most of territories under their spheres of influence are Mughals and British. Lastest one is the British Empire who first consolidated the biggest area in the entire history of Subcontinent and then named it British India. After their departure in 1947 three power centres have already emerged likes of India, Pakistan and Bangladesh. Ceylone now named Sri Lanka, Nepal and other small nations have history of their own.

In Pakistan different ethnicities who have been existing for hundreds of years and still have very potent connection with Pakistan. A modern nation state that has adopted alien languages of Urdu and English as official. Yet constitution is in place that defines everything for all these groups and also moving fast in 21st century with new challenges. Same thing goes for India with all their diversity and different cultures still managed to achieve a strong sense of belonging and affinity. Its all a matter of perspective or from which angle you want to see it.

India and Pakistan are part of the same civilisation or sisterly civilisations for 5000 years with various power centers like Patna, Pune, Agra, Aurangabad, Dehli, Peshawar, Lahore, Tashkila etc so how do say which one has longer history i will leave it upto you. Many people are unhappy with first paragraph where i have mentioned the independence days separated by a day or few hours however you see it. I did say that is one way of looking at it but still many think i tried to pull one up which was not my intention but you cannot make everyone happy at all time. Peace
