We should not say which is the strongest team before the tournament starts but on paper and current form of players we should see which franchise has the best squad (If you want to know the direct answer, directly scroll to the end of the answer) :

CSK has not changed it’s team a lot. They are relying on their with whom they have played last two season and have been successful. They have brought in Piyush Chawla, Josh Hazlewood and Sam Curran. Piyush Chawla is obvious choice for them. This could be the last IPL for Imran Tahir and hence bringing in Piyush Chawla who is another experienced and one of the most successful leg spinner in IPL is a great choice. But I think they have done something wrong by not buying on new batsmen. Though there batsmen have done good in last two seasons but they struggled last season with their batting lineup. Watson, Dhoni, Raina and Rayudu haven’t played a lot of cricket this year and Faf Du Plessis is not in a great form in T20s. But they must have a plan for this. Overall their team is quite good. If the players have their last year form then this team is again going in playoffs.

RCB had to rebuild their team again. With new coach Mike Hesson, they must have got a good plan for this season. Overall they were focused more on away players. They got Aaron Finch, Morris, Dale Steyn and Kane Richardson inteam apart from other players. If you see they have focused on foreign bowling options. Aaron Finch will allow RCB to play Virat Kohli at number 3 and their batting line up looks much better than previous year, at least on paper. Again they have good bowlers but they are mostly away players and you can’t play more than 4 away players in team. It would be interesting to see what bowling line up does RCB plays with. Overall this is a good squad but has many changes which may affect it.

DC :
Delhi Capitals has a good squad. Even they have build a squad around fixed players who were successful last year. Apart from that they have got Hetmyer in their team who is in a good form now a days. They have got a solid squad to play with and I think they have high chances of reaching playoffs this season if their players continue their form.

MI :
Mumbai Indians has build a squad around some fixed players. I think they have the best bowlers in their squad. Their best buy was Chris Lynn. It would be interesting to see who opens the inning for MI. They have Chris Lynn, De Kock and Rohit. If they play Ishan Kishan then Rohit Sharma can open the inning but if they play De Kock then Rohit Sharma may need to bat down the order. Apart from that they should have looked backup for Krunal Pandya. I think Krunal Pandya may not play well this year and they don’t even have a good all rounder who is a spinner. Overall they have got a squad which can reach playoffs.

KKR has made many changes especially in their bowling department. They have got Eoin Morgan who may captain KKR this season but they don’t have a good opener to open the innings with Shubman Gill. They may again go to Sunil Narine to open for KKR. Last year Russell was the reason KKR won most of their matches but you don’t know how good is he going to play now. They have a lot of bowling options. Overall it is quite good squad but I think they are going to struggle with their batting line up.

RR :
RR has a good team but most of their good players are “away” players. Most probably Steve Smith is going to captain their side. The problem is that they did not buy any experienced Indian players apart from Robin Uthappa. Robin Uthappa is experienced but they don’t know about his form. They have Jofra Archer, Ben Stokes, Steve Smith and obviously Jos Buttler. If they pick these away players then they won’t be able to form a good bowling lineup.

KXIP has great bunch of bowlers but they may face problems regarding captaincy and batting middle order. They have got Maxwell who has captained the side earlier and he may receive the captaincy again. They have a good opening pair of K.L. Rahul and Chris Gayle but they may face problems in middle order. Mayank Agarwal had done well last time at number 3 but he wasn’t consistent. KXIP may face few problems regarding their batting line up.

SRH has got a good squad but again most of their good players are “away” players. Last year, the pair of Bairstow and Warner did very well for them. What made problem for them was middle order. After David Warner and Bairstow were called back before the world cup then SRH had a bad time. Manish Pandey is in great form this year and he can solve the middle order problem a bit but you can’t expect a player to play well in each and every game. Their bowling options are great. Their bowling order has been match winner for them for last two years. Over all SRH has a great squad.

I think Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals have the best squad for next IPL season. Though we can’t say who is going to do he best this year before the start of season but their squad looks good on paper.
