  1. First off, the best player in the world is Argentine, not Portuguese.

    Now that that’s out of the way, I really can’t see any underdog making a deep run into the quarterfinals and beyond. I’m tempted to say Spain simply because of their star-studded team, but I could definitely see Argentina shocking everyone (despite barely qualifying), and I think Germany has a decent chance. If you really want an off-the-wall suggestion, I could see Australia shocking some people.

    EDIT: When I initially answered this question, I knew I had filled out a predictive bracket for the World Cup, but I could not find it. I stumbled across it recently (it was on ESPN SoccerNet, not FIFA.com). I actually have the Netherlands winning the whole thing, although it was sort of an on-the-fly prediction without any real research or backing other than what I already know. But yeah, I’m not predicting a lot of upsets.
