  1. Thanks for the A2A

The Doctor is the main character in the television show Doctor Who. He is a time lord from the planet Gallifrey. He travels through time and space with a companion from earth and saves people from monsters. Every time that he is mortally wounded, his old self dies and his body regenerates into a new person with a different personality and actor, but the same memories. ‘The Doctor’ is a name he chose for himself. It’s a promise to ‘never be cruel nor cowardly. Never give up, never give in.’ His real name is unknown. It has been said that it can’t be heard by humans. That it is unpronounceable and that it wouldn’t make any sense if you heard it. One of his companions, Adric, said that it sounded like singing. In the latest episode of the show, as the latest incarnation died, he says,

“Oh, and….and you mustn’t tell anyone your name. No-one would understand it anyway. Except….

He gasps, falls to the floor

Except….children. Children can hear it. Sometimes – if their hearts are in the right place, and the stars are too. Children can hear your name.”

This is actually something that the actor said at a panel, and the writer liked it so much that he included it in the show. It is a rather nice line.
