Why does Balochistan want freedom from Pakistan?

OK, I’ll tell you why.
But first, forget the “terrorist state” and “Indian conspiracy” answers. So basically, keep in mind that Balochistan is 46% land of Pakistan, yet very little development has taken place. The province may appear to be a wasteland, but that’s not the case. The 75 sq.km Lasbela Plains are fertile, and so are the areas in NE Balochistan (e.g. Quetta—fruit-growing region). And there’s a lot of mineral wealth in the province. A major part of the gas in Pakistan comes from the Sui gas field near Sibi in Balochistan, leading natural gas to be called “Sui gas” in Pakistan. Antimony is found around Zhob, sulfur around Koh-e-Sultan, and major gold (and copper) deposits are found at Reko Diq/Saindak. Yet, resources remain under-utilized (or in the case of “Sui gas”, very little gas is supplied in Balochistan. Yet a major part of Punjab has gas connections).

Then comes Gwadar, and infrastructure. Balochistan has the lowest road density in Pakistan, and no major rail connection (apart from Karachi–Quetta—Iran), even on the Makran coast, where there is little technical difficulity in installing the lines. Gwadar can be the next Dubai, but Balochis are not a major beneficiary of the Gwadar project.
Then we have military highhandedness and the infamous “missing persons”. The military carried out operations in 1948 (under Jinnah’s rule, I think), in the ’70s (ZA Bhutto), and in the 21st century (Gen Musharraf). Also, people have been abducted (most probably by FC) and gone “missing” in Balochistan. Bodies have been found years later.
Then we have underrepresentation in Parliament. True, Balochistan has a very low population, but if the USA could inhabit the Pacific states, so could Pakistan populate Balochistan.
Finally, Balochi human rights activists are silenced. An example is Mama Qadeer. Here’s another person….Mama Qadeer is coming up….

Above: Qadeer said this one when he was not permitted to board a plane to New York for a humanitarian fundraiser.

Here you go. Balochistan wants independence, but won’t get it, because:

Shares a long land border with every province of Pakistan, unlike Bangladesh
Has a very small population that cannot put on a fight against a large Pakistan Army.

Hopefully, this will answer your question. Feel free to ask anything that comes to your mind!
