Wow – In 70+ years I have never met a single American (other than a Pakistani immigrant) who views Pakistan more favorably than he or she views India. Do you WANT an American military base in India? Why? India is great at taking care of itself. I have been to India six times for a total of 7 or 8 months and soon to return for a 4-month visit. I can’t imagine visiting Pakistan – why would I? I do not know it for a fact that the US cooperates with India on terrorism, but I cannot imagine that it does not. Perhaps the US doesn’t side with India in the struggle with Pakistan publicly but I am certain that no matter what you see in the news (especially any India news that looks constantly at any issue through the narrow lens of whether we are being more pro-Pakistan or more pro-India) that the US trusts India more (insofar as any nation trusts another). The US dances somewhat to Pakistan’s tune in any case where it thinks it can engage Pakistan’s aid in pursuing its interests in Afghanistan and other places. But there are plenty of people who question this show of favor, since Pakistan has proven again and again to be utterly untrustworthy and that many members of its security apparatus are aiding US enemies with their left hand as they shake America’s hand with their right. The US preference for Pakistan in relation to India is something that I have heard about for years from Indians (never from Pakistanis) and I am baffled because as far as I can see it is pure fiction. Check the tourism figures for American visitors to India and Pakistan. I think you’ll see clearly which we prefer.
