Why don’t we farm ivory?

Elephant tusks only grow about 7 inches a year. That means for every elephant you keep in your ivory farm, you can get two 7 inch sticks of ivory per year. I haven’t done the math but I think the annual cost of keeping the elephant in captivity would vastly outstrip the profit you could get from those two 7 inch sticks of ivory.
