Why is America tolerating Donald Trump as its president?

  1. Because we have a history of following the constitution. I am pleased to be in a nation that does not have an uprising or a coup every time we don’t like an elected official. As someone who did not vote for either candidate, and was disgusted with both, I would not have advocated the overthrow of Hillary Clinton; and do not advocate such for Trump. I, in your words, would “tolerate” either one of them because we have laws we actually observe and respect. We do have processes to remove people from office. One is impeachment, which has been used, and although it removed neither impeached president from office, it has been used to legally, non-violently remove other officials.

    The other, of course, is election. Many state governors and other officials are subject to “recall” elections at any time.

    The power of election will be a chance to stop “tolerating” Trump in 2020. If he wins again, we will continue to “tolerate” him, because the alternative, which most nations use, is much worse.
