Originally Answered: Why is everyone freaking out about the Wuhan coronavirus?

I speak Chinese so I heard about the outbreak 3 days before any english media reported on the disease.

This is the Chinese New Year period. Millions of people travel across the country back home to celebrate. Wuhan has the most college students of many large cities, home of 11 million people in one city.

The outbreak started in December.

Before the quarantine, many sick people left the city and fled to other parts of China.

N95 masks are sold out across the country. And many are left without masks.

All hospitals are full and people were sent home sick and many were refused diagnosis because they would have to be in official tally once tested positive.

Many died at hospital and left for hours as staff are busy with patients.

Thoughts and prayer to people of Wuhan.

All public roads are shut down, no cars allowed. No public transportation of any kind in quarantined zones, which has an estimated area of 20 million Chinese.

Twitter has many videos about the Wuhan corona virus.

Wuhan hospitals now publicly ask for donations of medical masks and gear because of shortage. Many staff are infected and you can find their videos on YouTube.

(3rd Feb 2020) I just went out to buy some vegetables at a local supermarket. Let me tell you quickly what I just witnessed.

Wuhan Market: source of virus outbreak

As I was about to leave my apartment, someone knocked the door. I opened the door and my body temperature was checked. It was 36.8 ‘C. So, I was fine. Anything beyond 37.2 ‘C means quarantine, immediate isolation. This is a daily routine.

As I passed through the main gate of my building, I saw the following notification:

Basically, asking you to check your body temperature by yourself.

Then I went out, and I was stopped by a security guard, at a street about 200m away from my building of residence. He did the same: checked my temperature. I was fine. I realized that anyone who was passing via that street had to get tested for the body temperature.

In fact, there were quite a few such security guards standing close to each other, each holding the temperature sensor.

Then as I went a bit further, I saw a good number of security guards at the main entrance of each building complexes.

Anyone who is either coming/going from/to any of the buildings in this building complex, has to compulsorily go through the temperature sensor. No exceptions allowed.

Also, you can’t enter supermarket without a mask.

Well, this is the situation in Suzhou, more than 800 km away from Wuhan.

So why? Why are the authorities so serious?

Well, because we still don’t have any reliable vaccine to cure the patient affected with this novel coronavirus. That’s why everyone is freaking out about the Wuhan virus.

In fact, it may take a few months to get the vaccines ready for the common population. This is to say, prevention is still the best cure.

This is an extraordinary time.

Let’s be careful. Let’s cooperate with the government.

Let’s stand with China.

It’s a new virus. Our immune systems don’t know how to deal with new viruses. It’s reminiscent of the Spanish influenza that killed at least 54 million people. !919–1920.

Spanish influenza was characteristic of death by an overzealous immune response to an unknown pathogen. This corona-virus possibly jumped species— snakes, or bats to civets and this virus is unknown to humans’ and their immune systems.

If this virus becomes virulent, we’ve got a problem.

Tea Cultures will be susceptible to high mortality rates because tea boosts the immune system India and japan would have a concern i this virus breaks out. i Suspect that it’ll be 5 to 7 % mortality rate.

Pregnant women have elevated and aggressive immune systems,1000 times more aggressive than the normal population. I think you can expect a 50% mortality rate for infected expecting moms.

It’s serious. China is doing all it can to contain the threat == Remarkably they are building a 1000 bed hospital in 10 days

Be wary of profiteers offering to boost your immune system. let’s see how the virus is being addressed by healthy individuals and ill individuals or people with immature immune systems. The mortally rate will be inverted, such that it’ll be more lethal to healthy folks if it’s anything like 1919–1920′ (Curious, it’s 2020. 100 years)

Whale flesh contains compounds that relax the immune response.

The economic repercussions will be huge – if that’s a concern of yours.
